Associate Marriage & Family Therapist
Hi. I’m Fedra Arellano. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. More specifically, I am someone who sparks change in people’s lives and relationships. If you are ready to do the work, you will be amazed at how capable you are to explore parts of yourself you never knew existed. The therapy process can help you grow more quickly than you ever have before. I live in San Diego, California. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I lived in Dallas, Texas, for eight years. I obtained my associate’s degree in psychology in Mexico City. I worked as a registered dental assistant for eight years. I have a 9-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. My hobbies include yoga, kickboxing, and painting. I have overcome many obstacles in my life and continue fighting for the things I want. Being positive has allowed me to make changes as a therapist and in my life.
Moreover, as a behavioral therapist, I was able to help autistic children and their families. I received several awards for the therapist of the month. Another highlight of my educational journey has been receiving Latin honors for a high GPA from Argosy University. It was also an honor to be chosen as a student speaker in both of my commencement ceremonies.
During my internship, I received positive feedback from my supervisor, co-workers, and clients. I was able to help my high-risk clients with psychosis better their mental and physical health. As a mother of two children, I was able to take two graduate classes, work at my site, and manage a household simultaneously. I am a problem solver, able to persevere through any situation. Even in the most challenging times of my life, I continued fighting for my dreams. Obtaining my doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from NCU will help me increase my knowledge, skills, and abilities as a therapist. As a person who has confronted poverty and health problems, I am committed to helping families, individuals, and couples.
As a result of my own experiences, I am familiar with the frustration and despair endemic to individuals fighting to survive. I faced the obstacles as a single low-income mother with courage and strength. My master’s work and life experiences have given me a distinguished knowledge of the mental health field. I believe a great therapist never stops learning. What makes me different, unique, and memorable? The love, dedication, and commitment toward the people I meet in my life. The passion and dream I’ve had to become a psychologist my whole life. Winston Churchill once said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
