Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor

Manny Diaz (pronouns: he/him/his/él) is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) in California.

Manny’s clinical specialties include working with LGBTQ+ (lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-queer) and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) populations alongside applying principles of sex therapy. He operates using an intersectional and anti-oppressive counseling framework that includes working with clients primarily on gender and sexual minority topics, racial and social justice issues, and helping them explore and navigate diverse sexual relationships and subcultures among other related clinical concerns. He is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat Late Life Depression with clients aged 60+, has completed training in Anti-Racism Counseling, and has experience facilitating a Sex and Body Positive counseling support group. Providing clients with an affirming and safe space to explore their presenting concerns, social identities, and relationships is a priority for him.

Manny has clinical expertise in the areas of HIV/AIDS psychoeducation and prevention, gender and sexual identity development and coming out, sex and body positivity and liberation, monogamy and consensual nonmonogamy, BDSM and kink cultures, masculinity and men’s issues, couples therapy, race and ethnicity topics, addiction, anxiety, codependency, depression, homelessness, isolation and loneliness, grief, loss, and bereavement concerns, adjustment and life transitions, college and academic-related concerns, imposter syndrome, career counseling, suicidality, trauma, and geriatric behavioral and mental health.

Manny utilizes interventions and techniques from the following schools of thought: LGBTQ+ Affirmative Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Culturally Sensitive, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Experiential, Feminist Therapy, Humanistic, Multicultural Counseling, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma Focused.

Manny is bilingual and is available to offer counseling services in English and Spanish. He is a native of east Los Angeles and a first-generation student who received his BA in psychology from Cal Poly Pomona and possesses a PhD and MA in education from Claremont Graduate University. He has MA degrees in psychological counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University and Brandman University. At the moment, he is a candidate for a second PhD in clinical sexology from the Modern Sex Therapy Institute and will become a certified sex therapist. His nonclinical roles include working as a college professor teaching courses in ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, and queer studies and being a dog dad to a small Yorkie and Chihuahua.
